HISTORY:
Luis Ignascio Urive Alvirde is the son of Manuel Almanza, who wrestled under the ring name "Dr. Karonte", the brother of wrestlers Astro Boy, Argos, Argenis and an unspecified member of Los Mini Psycho Circus, the cousin of wrestler Magnus and the nephew of CMLL booker Tony Salazar.
Ignascio was trained for his professional wrestling debut by his father and his uncle Tony Salazar who is a retired wrestler that works as a booker for Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre, Mexico's oldest and largest wrestling promotion. Místico made his debut on April 30, 1998 working as "Dr. Karonte, Jr." at the age of 15. In 2000 he changed his ring name to "Astro Boy" in honor of his older brother who had died months earlier, who had worked as the original Astro Boy. Later on he was joined by another brother who worked as "Astro Boy II" to form a tag team. In 2003 Místico travelled to Japan to work for Michinoku Pro where he was billed as "Komachi", a persona he took over from his friend and fellow luchador Volador, Jr. who had played the part for about a year.
On February 24, WWE held a press conference in Mexico City to introduce Ignascio under his new name, Sin Cara, which translates to "Faceless". There was a dispute at first with Ignascio, as he did not want to drop his Mistico persona, however he gave into becoming Sin Cara for the sake of pleasing American fans and the American wrestling culture.
On July 17, Sin Cara participated in the second annual Money in the Bank PPV in WWE, but was unsuccessful in winning the ladder match to earn a World Heavyweight Championship opportunity, after being taken out of the match with a powerbomb onto a propped lader from Sheamus, resulting in an injury. The following day, WWE announced that it had suspended Sin Cara for 30 days for his first violation of its Wellness program. This began the issues between Ignascio and WWE, as they waited until after Money in the Bank to inform him of the planned suspension, thus allowing him in the match which resulted in his injury. To further the tension between Ignascio and WWE, the Sin Cara persona returned on the August 12 edition of SmackDown, defeating Tyson Kidd, however with Ignascio still serving his suspension, the Sin Cara persona was portrayed by WWE developmental wrestler Jorge Arias, better known by the ring names Incognito and Hunico, while also having gone by the ring name "Mistico" in Mexico as well.
Jorge and Ignascio have a bitter hatred with each other for several years, with one claiming the other stole the Mistico persona. In Ignascio's eyes, this was a slap to the face by WWE after making a mistake in his personal life, which caused the suspension. To futher anger Ignascio, most of the WWE Universe didn't even notice the difference in the Sin Cara persona and those that were aware of Jorge taking over the Sin Cara persona, they seemed to not care at all.
This was the last straw for Ignascio as he requested to be released of his contract by WWE, which was granted a few days later. Immediately afterward, Owen Roth caught wind of this and immediately contacted Sin Cara's agents and signed the wrestler. With how WWE and American fans treated Ignascio, Hector Guerrero contacted the Mexican Luchador and the two almost immediately became friends, associates, and more importantly, a mouth piece for the non-English speaking Ignascio, to speak his mind to America. With a new outlook on the american wrestling business and American wrestling fans, Ignascio has had a re-birth of his Mistico persona, displaying that he will not adapt to Americans but rather, they will adapt to his Mexican made persona and pure Lucha Libre wrestling style.
